پدری همراه پسرش در جنگلی می رفتند. ناگهان پسرک زمین خورد و درد شدیدی احساس کرد.او فریاد کشید آه... در همین حال صدایی از کوه شنید که گفت: آه... پسرک با کنجکاوی فریاد زد «تو کی هستی؟» اما جوابی جز این نشنید «تو کی هستی؟» این موضوع او را عصبانی کرد.
پس داد زد «تو ترسویی!» و صدا جواب داد «تو ترسویی!» به پدرش نگاه کرد و پرسید:«پدر چه اتفاقی دارد می افتد؟» پدر فریاد زد «من تو را تحسین می کنم» صدا پاسخ داد «من تو را تحسین می کنم» پدر دوباره فریاد کشید «تو شگفت انگیزی» و آن آوا پاسخ داد «تو شگفت انگیزی». پسرک متعجب بود ولی هنوز نفهمیده بود چه خبر است.

پدر این اتفاق را برایش اینگونه توضیح داد: مردم این پدیده را «پژواک» می نامند. اما در حقیقت این «زندگی» است. زندگی هر چه را بدهی به تو برمی گرداند. زندگی آینه اعمال و کارهای نیک و بد توست. اگر عشق بیشتری می خواهی، عشق بیشتری بده. اگر مهربانی بیشتری می خواهی، بیشتر مهربان باش. اگر احترام و بزرگداشت را طالبی، درک کن و احترام بگذار. اگر می خواهی مردم نسبت به تو صبور و مؤدب باشند، صبر و ادب داشته باش!
